July Oakleaf NOW Online!
July Oakleaf NOW Online!

The latest edition of the Oakleaf is now available!

As you’ve come to expect in our July issue, we celebrate our exceptional lineage with the announcement of our Scholarship Recipients! Thanks to your generous donations, more than $262,000 has been offered for the 2019-2020 school year. Our cover page begins the scholarship coverage and on page 10, we catch up with Taylor Whaley, a 2016 scholarship winner.

You’ll also find this giant issue packed with Chapter News and photos, highlighting our Monterey and Mechanicsburg Chapters and the Hampton Roads Fun Bunch, as well as, a few Supply Birthday Ball photos!

As always, the In Memoriam section names the great losses we’ve experienced in our community. And on page 4, our Vintage Oakleaf Club Spotlight tells the story of CDR Bob Wilson, SC, USN (Ret.)—a gentleman we were unable to reach out to before his passing in March, 2019. The Vintage Oakleaf Club invites members aged 90 and older to share your life’s adventure with our members. Contact Chair CAPT (Ret.) Tiffany Schad at heritage@usnscf.com to discuss this opportunity.

And, no issue would be complete without RADM (Ret.) Dan McKinnon’s Shared Sea Stories—always engaging and filled with raw humor. Read about “The toilet seat that never was” on page 8, and you’ll be both intrigued and entertained!

This special expanded online version of the newsletter is on our website now. The print version of the July Oakleaf will be in mailboxes next month! Remember, if you prefer to read the Oakleaf online and want to discontinue delivery to your home, please email foundationadmin@usnscf.com .

We love to hear from our members. If you’d like to contribute to the newsletter or share your thoughts on this issue, please email the editor at theoakleaf@usnscf.com.

Enjoy your summer!
Sincerely,
RADM Linda Bird, SC, USN (Ret.)

FLASH FROM THE CHIEF: LGBT Pride Month
FLASH FROM THE CHIEF: LGBT Pride Month

To remain ready to fight and win tonight, it is imperative that our NAVSUP team has the right individuals with the right skills in the right places. In support of our mission to provide supplies, services, and quality-of-life support to the Navy and Joint Warfighter, we will build and maintain a workforce comprised of the most capable and qualified Sailors and civilians without regard to ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, class or background.

NAVSUP is committed to fostering an actively inclusive environment that values the diversity of our workforce, one of our greatest strengths. We join our nation in celebrating Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Pride Month and recognizing the outstanding contributions our LGBT teammates continue to make to our mission and our nation.

Established by presidential proclamation in 2000, LGBT Pride Month reminds us to value the dignity of the people around us. I encourage you to spend time celebrating our nation’s and Navy's rich diversity and our enduring effort to respect and uphold the dignity of all.
